Architect of the early, shocking rout of the allied combined armies, General Von Hayek was later held to account for the savage excesses of his underlings in the later stages of the Ostrich War, even though he was largely removed from direct combat authority having been "promoted" to serve as General Mbuni's Chief of Staff.
Having spent a decade in confinement, Von Hayek is rumored to be seeking closure with the man he publicly and personally holds responsible for the dissolution of his nation... and his beloved Strauß Korps.
Tell me I'm wrong, but I suspect that not many ostriches or their riders survived this conflict, thanks to Zamundan aviation and mechanized infantry in the final campaign of the war. (The birds were meant for hit-and-run strikes in the roadless bush, not for high-intensity urban combat against RPGs and heavy machine guns.)
This great loss of birds would be the stain on Van Hayek's honor, more so than any "actions of overenthusiastic men" i.e. war crimes.
